Out Of Hours


If you need advice or medical/ dental information outside normal hours even if urgent, please ring NHS 111 by dialling 111. You will be connected to a call handler who will help you.


In addition to NHS 111 you should also consider the following services:




Clacton Minor Injuries Unit at Clacton hospital avaliable to you between 9.00am and 9.00pm 7 days a week except Christmas Day and Boxing day. Click here for a map.


  • Cuts, grazes and scratches (including those which might need stitches)
  • Sprains, strains and suspected broken bones (including those which might need an X-ray)
  • Bites, stings and minor burns
  • Minor infections (including eyes)
  • Minor head injuries ( if consciousness has not been lost)



 "Walk in Service" located at North Colchester Healthcare Centre, Turner Road, Colchester, CO4 5JR. You can attend any time between the hours of 7.00am to 10.00pm every day including weekends and see a GP without any appointment being necessary. Click here for a link to a map.


Services Include:

  • Cuts and grazes which do not need stitching
  • Sprains and strains (which do not need x-ray)
  • Bites, stings and minor burns
  • Minor infections (including eyes)
  • Minor head injuries (if consciousness has not been lost)
  • Blood tests
  • GP services
  • Smoking cessation and contraceptive advice
  • Stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhoea
  • Urine tract infections
  • Minor illnesses
  • Chesty coughs
  • Sore throats 
  • A Phlebotomy Service Monday-Friday 7am – 2pm

Please note the Centre is unable to offer the following services:-

  • Repeat Prescriptions
  • Cardiac Chest Pain
  • X-Ray
  • Suturing
  • Neck Pain following a Road Traffic Accident


 Colchester Emergency Department (Formally A&E)


This is located at Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, Turner Road, Colchester, CO4 5JL and is avaliable 24 hours a day, every day. Click here for a link to a map.


Go straight to the Emergency Department (A&E) or call 999 for all life threatening illnesses or injuries:

  • Chest pains
  • Stroke 
  • Shortness of breath
  • Blood loss
  • Blacking out (loss of consciousness)
  • Major injury to a limb or any other part of your body
  • A major accident
  • Anything you think might be life threatening.
